Two things amongst all the Thatcher hysteria, that nobody is mentioning.
1) Britain pretty much collapsed in 1979, didn't it? Just like the Soviets did in '89. Only we had our oil already coming onstream, whereas they had to wait a decade for their Siberian fields to get pumping.
Thatcher was a kind of combined Yeltsin/Putin - part pawnbroker to foreign investors, part patriotic "strongman".
2) It was the Left that killed off consensus politics, with their unnecessary persecution of Jim Callaghan. Alot of the animus against Thatcher is a projection of this guilt WHICH IS NEVER ACKNOWLEDGED.
