Is that a good thing?

No, that was an honest question! I mean, it's a sound I dig, but I can't tell if these guys just swapped one set of affectations for another...

yeah it's a bad thing. i'm not sure that MBV were really missing Gedge on vocals....do you like the Horrors, Seb? i think they're pretty awful myself. partly how derivitive they are, part the leaden gedginess of the voice, part the absence of any real sens e of despair or y'know... Horror.

I'll confess, when I first saw the video to "Sheena Is a Parasite", I was psyched. The relentless, fuzzed-out propulsion with untethered vocals and blasts of feedback - it was like David Yow fronting Circle (except, y'know, British). Then I heard the full-length and saw how hollow an affectation the whole thing was. I mean, I love the Birthday Party, but who wants to spend their twenties doing endless variations on "Guilt Parade"?

But yeah, you're absolutely right about the new album. Respect for grabbing all the right production gags (tremolo arm, reverse reverb, plate reverb, etc.), but it's shocking how easily everyone's swallowed this new album from a band of proven mimics.

You know you're getting old when no - one else seems to remember the old band being mimiced.
